Indonesia’s capital market is drawing in a widening pool of participants, ranging from students and homemakers to salaried workers and business owners.

Yet, data from the Indonesian Central Securities Depository (KSEI) shows a divergence between who invests the most and who invests the most often.

Entrepreneurs dominate in terms of investment value. Between 2021 and June 2025, their holdings more than doubled - from Rp 291.37 trillion to Rp 611.87 trillion - making them the biggest players in terms of capital deployed.

Employees, however, continue to represent the majority of retail investors. While their total investments grew from Rp 253.31 trillion in 2021 to Rp 466.54 trillion by June 2025, their sheer numbers far outweigh entrepreneurs.

Employees made up 33.98% of investors in 2021, rising to 37.74% in 2025. By contrast, entrepreneurs accounted for just 13.59% in 2021 and 18.60% this year.
