President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the operation of 80,000 Merah Putih Village Cooperatives on July 21, 2025. Based on the distribution, Central Java is the province with the highest number of Merah Putih Village Cooperatives.

Based on data from the website merahputih.kop.id, about one-third of the total Merah Putih Cooperatives or 25,260 cooperative units are located in Java. According to the official website Merahputih.kop.id, the largest number is in Central Java, with 8,563 or 11 percent. Followed by East Java and West Java provinces with 10 percent and 7.3 percent respectively.

Outside Java, Merah Putih Village Cooperatives are most prevalent in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) and North Sumatra, each at 8 percent.

Through Presidential Instruction Number 9 of 2025, the government launched this program to strengthen the village economy and community welfare. Cooperatives have an important role to play in sustaining the rural economy, which is largely untouched by modernization.
