From Java to Aceh: 80,000 Village Cooperatives Begin Operations

President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the operation of 80,000 Koperasi Desa Merah Putih (Merah Putih Village Cooperatives) on July 21, 2025. Among the distribution, Central Java is the province with the highest number of Merah Putih Village Cooperatives.

According to data from merahputih.kop.id, about one-third of the total—25,260 cooperatives—are located on the island of Java. Central Java leads with 8,563 cooperatives, or 11 percent, followed by East Java with 10 percent and West Java with 7.3 percent.

Outside Java, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) and North Sumatra record the largest numbers, each at around 8 percent.

Launched through Presidential Instruction No. 9/2025, the program is aimed at strengthening village economies and improving community welfare. Cooperatives are expected to play a vital role in supporting rural economies, most of which remain untouched by modernization.
