The high enthusiasm of the audience to go to the movies is one of the reasons for the increasing number of film productions in Indonesia. This has improved the condition of the national film industry.
The manager of the CGV Indonesia cinema network, PT Graha Layar Prima Tbk (BLTZ) on Thursday (02/10/2025) plans to expand by adding cinema screens in 2026.
BLTZ Director Haryani Suwirman said this strategy is the key to increasing market share and the company's performance.
"We will continue to expand to fulfill market share and also satisfy CGV's loyal customers," he said at the Incidental Public Expose, in Jakarta (2/10).
He did not specify how many screens will be added but hopes that this expansion will make CGV Indonesia better in the future and prioritize areas outside Java for expansion.
BLTZ also pays attention to the Food and Beverages (F&B) business which is considered to continue to show a positive trend. Usually, with the addition of a movie theater screen, food and beverage booths will definitely follow.
According to him, the quality of Indonesian cinema is increasing rapidly. This can be seen from the number of Indonesian films that air in a week reaching 3-4 films, while in a month there can be more than 15 films.
"The quality of Indonesian films can compete with foreign films, besides that public interest in watching films in theaters is still high even though there are currently streaming services," he said.
He explained that people still like to go to the movies because it provides a different experience both in terms of pictures and sound.
BLTZ encourages the growth of the national film industry and in collaboration with the film Production House (PH) holds Gala Premiere which is usually often held at CGV Grand Indonesia.
Financial Performance
In terms of financial performance, BLTZ's business pace was stable until the first half of this year. BLTZ booked revenue of Rp 614.76 billion in the first semester of 2025, down slightly from Rp 617.60 billion in the previous year.
The contribution of movie theaters still supports BLTZ's performance with a value of Rp 386.11 billion. However, this figure shrank from the position in the first semester of 2024 which amounted to Rp 395.40 billion.
Meanwhile, the F&B business actually experienced a slight increase to Rp 193.93 billion, compared to Rp 190.77 billion. Likewise with events & advertisers which rose to Rp 34.71 billion.
BLTZ Finance Team Leader Arie Hartomo Putra said that in terms of the bottom line, profit attributable to owners of the parent entity, aka net profit, was recorded at Rp 25.21 billion. This figure actually skyrocketed by 155.48% compared to Rp 9.86 billion in 2024.
The significant growth in net profit was driven by the company's innovation and operational efficiency. One example is the replacement of movie theater projectors, from using old-fashioned lamps to laser projectors.
"So that the cost of purchasing these lights for this year has decreased. So it has an impact on our profit which has increased from the previous year," he said.
Arie said that until the second quarter of 2025, BLTZ still operates 71 theaters throughout Indonesia with a total of 405 screens, this number is unchanged from the position at the end of 2024.
"If it is possible to add more, we will pursue it to be completed this year," he said.
Cinema XXI is also stable
On a different occasion, the manager of Cinema XXI, PT Nusantara Sejahtera Raya Tbk (CNMA) also recorded a stable performance by posting a revenue of Rp2.8 trillion with a net profit of Rp324 billion in the first semester of 2025.
The Company also recorded EBITDA of Rp842.4 billion, reflecting its stable performance amidst the dynamic economic situation.
President Director of Cinema XXI Suryo Suherman said that the positive performance during the first semester of 2025 is the result of a solid business foundation and the company's strategy that is carried out in a measured and consistent manner.
This achievement was also supported by the Company's steps in optimizing business strategies that focus on improving viewing services and expanding to various regions in Indonesia.
"The stability of the Company's performance is the result of the effective implementation of strategies that are directed and adaptive to industry dynamics, as well as strengthening operational networks consistently and continuously," Suryo said in a press release received by SUAR in Jakarta (2/10).
The performance in the first semester of 2025 was certainly driven by a total audience of 42.5 million viewers, where the total audience in the second quarter more than doubled the total audience in the first quarter. This increase was supported by the momentum of Lebaran and the audience's enthusiasm for box office films, both national and international films.
The positive trend of national film performance, which continued in the first semester of 2025, also played a positive role for Cinema XXI. This is reflected in the contribution of national films which reached more than 65% of the total audience in the first semester of 2025. "As the largest cinema network in Indonesia, we are proud to be part of the ecosystem that supports the progress of Indonesian films," continued Suryo.
Based on data published by filmindonesia.or.id, there were 9 national films that reached more than 1 million viewers in the first semester of 2025 in all cinema networks in Indonesia.
The three national films with the highest audience in this period include Jumbo, which managed to set a record as the highest-grossing Indonesian film of all time with an audience of 10,197,790, Pabrik Gula (4,726,760), and Petaka Gunung Gede (3,242,843).
Cinema XXI's revenue contribution still comes from two main business lines, namely cinema ticket sales at 62.4%, and food and beverage sales at 33.6%.
Suryo said that in the first semester of 2025 there was an increase in sales of food products. This can be seen from the average spend per head (SPH) for food and beverages which rose to IDR 25,000, compared to IDR 23,000 in the first semester of 2024. "This increase in SPH is an important indicator that audience interest in our F&B products continues to grow healthily," Suryo explained.
In the midst of achieving positive performance in the second quarter of 2025, the Company again paid a final dividend for the financial year 2024 of Rp4 per share or equivalent to a payment value of Rp333 billion.
Previously, the Company has also paid an interim dividend of Rp5 per share in November 2024, so in total, the Company has paid Rp9 per share or equivalent to 103% of the dividend payout ratio for fiscal year 2024.
"The dividend distribution is a form of the Company's commitment to provide added value to shareholders while maintaining the health of the Company's financial position and sustainable growth," Suryo concluded.
Government Support
Indef Economic Observer Eko Listiyanto said that in order for the cinema industry to continue to grow, support from the government is needed.
The form of support can be in the form of incentives, the government seeks to provide incentives for cinema entrepreneurs and support the "back to the cinema" campaign to arouse public interest.
Movie ticket taxes are regulated through local regulations as entertainment taxes, and local governments can have varying rates, usually between 10 to 15 percent.
"The government will collaborate with local governments and corporations to develop cinema infrastructure, such as adding screens in areas that are still lacking," he told SUAR in Jakarta (2/10).
