The national automotive market began to rise at the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2025, this can be seen from car sales in October 2025 which increased compared to September 2025. Car unit sales in October were the highest so far this year.
Based on data from the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo), national car sales (wholesales) in October 2025 reached 74,019 units, up 19.23% compared to September 2025 which reached 62,077 units.
However, car sales in October 2025 decreased by 4.4% compared to October 2024 car sales of 77,404 units.
In addition, car sales in January-October 2025 were still lower than the same period last year. In January-October 2025, car sales reached 635,844 units, down 10.64% compared to January-October 2024 sales of 711,604 units.
The best-selling car in October 2025 was held by BYD Atto 1 with sales reaching 9,396 units, this fact is very interesting because BYD managed to overtake Innova as the best-selling car for decades.
Gaikindo General Secretary Kukuh Kumara said the increase in car sales in October 2025 was influenced by two factors, namely economic growth that began to improve and stable consumer purchasing power.
"The existence of promos towards the end of the year also encourages car sales and this is also a seasonal trend," he told SUAR in Jakarta, Friday (11/14/2025).
BYD Makes History.
Kukuh said that since its launch, the BYD Atto 1 has been the talk of the town. Its affordable price is a concern for consumers. BYD Atto 1 sales exploded in the first month of distribution.
Gaikindo data recorded that throughout October BYD Atto 1 was distributed as many as 9,396 units. Thanks to this score, BYD Atto 1 made a new history. For the first time an electric car has occupied the top position of the best-selling car list in Indonesia.
"Electric cars have occupied the list of best-selling cars in Indonesia several times. But never perched in the top position. Only BYD Atto 1 can record this achievement," he said.
The following is the list of best-selling cars during October 2025, BYD Atto 1 sold 9,396 units Toyota Kijang Innova (Zenix and Reborn) sold 4,913 units, Daihatsu Gran Max PU sold 4,214 units.

Astra Car Sales Increase
PT Astra International Tbk (ASII)'s car sales increased again in October 2025 after slowing down in the previous month. Based on company data, Astra recorded wholesales sales of 34,888 units, up 4.04 percent compared to September 2025 which reached 33,535 units. This increase is in line with the improvement in the national automotive market, which recorded total sales of 74,020 units, growing 19 percent compared on a monthly basis.
Even so, cumulatively during January-October 2025, total national car sales still decreased by 10.58 percent compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, Astra's total car sales during the first ten months of 2025 reached 332,386 units, down 24.59 percent compared to 440,806 units in the same period in 2024.
Astra Head of Corporate Communications Windy Riswantyo said that the increase in sales in October 2025 was a positive signal towards the end of the year.
"Along with maintained economic stability and market activity that is starting to increase, we hope that this momentum can continue to support the development of the national automotive industry," Windy said in a written statement received by SUAR in Jakarta (14/11).
Astra's sales in October 2025 consisted of Toyota and Lexus totaling 20,613 units, Daihatsu 11,783 units, Isuzu 2,402 units, and UD Trucks 90 units.
For the Low Cost Green Car (LCGC) segment, Astra recorded sales of 6,924 units, up 8.22 percent compared to September 2025 which reached 6,398 units.
That way, Astra still controls 47 percent of the national market share in October 2025, slightly down compared to the previous month which reached 54 percent. "Astra's consistency in presenting relevant technology and superior after-sales service is key to maintaining our position in the national automotive market," Windy said.
Two Indicators to Keep
Automotive observer I Made Dana Tangkas said the automotive market is highly dependent on two indicators, namely macroeconomic factors and government policies.
The macroeconomy that must be considered is consumer purchasing power, a decline in purchasing power due to inflation or income stagnation makes people postpone car purchases.
Slowing economic growth can reduce consumer interest in buying new cars. "The increase in interest rates on motor vehicle loans makes installments more expensive, which hampers sales," he told SUAR in Jakarta (14/11).
Government policies to encourage car sales are tax-related, Policies such as high PPnBM (Sales Tax on Luxury Goods) will increase car prices, while tax relief can encourage sales.

Bank Mandiri Chief Economist Andry Asmoro said that the Bank's economic research team estimates that car sales in 2025 will be around 780 thousand units.
He explained that there are three positive catalysts that can drive car sales in 2025. First, the launch of new models at competitive prices. Second, a decrease in the benchmark interest rate. Third, incentives provided by the government, especially for BEV and HEV electric cars.
However, it also sees several three risks that could suppress car sales in 2025. First, the weakening of people's purchasing power, especially the lower middle class. Second, the uncertainty of the global and local economy. Third, the contraction of commodity prices which could reduce the level of car sales in the future.
