  • The rampant demonstrations that took place in Jakarta and several cities in Indonesia on August 25-31, 2025 are expected not to dampen the interest of domestic and foreign tourists to travel in the largest country in ASEAN. Foreign tourist visits that continue to grow need to be consistently maintained in the future. The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the number of foreign tourist visits to Indonesia reached 1.48 million in July 2025. This figure increased by 13.01% on an annual basis (YoY) and 4.62% on amonth-to-month basis.
  • The majority of tourists still choose Bali as the main destination. A total of 697,107 tourists were recorded visiting the Island of the Gods in July 2025, the highest during 2025. Up compared to the previous month of 637,868 people in June 2025.

Investment in Electric Cars Benefits Industrial Estates

  • The high interest of electric car manufacturers to invest in Indonesia is favorable for industrial estates. The demand for industrial land is mainly driven by the relocation and massive expansion of Chinese companies - especially in the food, electronics and electric vehicle ecosystem sectors.
  • Indonesia's automotive industry is still attractive to electric vehicle manufacturers from a number of countries. The investment value has reached IDR 5.65 trillion, which comes from electric cars, electric motors, and electric buses. The investment value is likely to continue to grow because there are a number of brands that will enter.
  • Driven by the battery electric car incentive regulation (Perpres 79/2023 concerning Amendments to Perpres 55/2023 concerning the Acceleration of the Battery-Based Electric Motor Vehicle Program for Road Transportation), the Ministry of Industry recorded the arrival of six new investments. Namely, BYD Auto Indonesia (BYD), Vinfast Automobile Indonesia (Vinfast), Geely Motor Indonesia (Geely), Era Automotive Industry (Xpeng), National Assemblers (Aion, Citroen, Maxus and VW), and Inchape Indomobil Energi Baru (GWM Ora).

From Crypto to Fintech, Digital Economy Taxes Keep Increasing

  • The Ministry of Finance said that the realization of tax revenue from the digital economy reached IDR 40.02 trillion as of 31 July 2025. Tax revenue from this sector is projected to continue to grow along with technological developments. This could be a new potential for tax revenue in the future.
  • Crypto tax revenue has been collected amounting to IDR 1.55 trillion as of July 2025. Fintech tax has also contributed IDR 3.88 trillion in tax revenue up to that month.

Exports to US Increase Ahead of New Tariffs

  • The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) release on September 1 regarding the development of Indonesia's exports and imports showed an increase in Indonesia's non-oil and gas exports to the United States in July 2025. The value of Indonesia's non-oil and gas exports to the US in that month was recorded at USD $3,100.30 million, an increase of nearly 16% compared to June.
  • This increase also caused the RI-US trade balance in July to climb to USD $2,212.40 million, up 34.9%. The total cumulative surplus from January to July 2025 reached USD 12,134.03 million, strengthening the position of the US as one of the most profitable trading partners for Indonesia.
