The government will build a state-of-the-art computing center based on AI and Quantum AI Data Center technology in Batam with a value of USD400 million (or around Rp6 trillion), making Indonesia the first country in Asia to have a Quantum AI Data Center.

Quantum AI Data Center's investment plan was revealed during the signing of a strategic partnership between Worldvuer iByond Limited, a leading technology company from Silicon Valley, and Tunas Prima Industrial Estate in Jakarta on July 9.

Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstream/Deputy Head of BKPM, Todotua Pasaribu, was present to witness this momentous occasion, along with Her Highness Princess Anne Shek, Chairman of Advisory Board for Asia, Worldvuer iByond Limited.

"This is in line with President Prabowo's directive which targets economic growth of 8 percent towards the Golden Indonesia of 2045. The digital economy, particularly data centers, is a key pillar to achieve this. Indonesia has tremendous potential in this sector, and we are ready to be a key partner in building Asia's digital future," said Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstream/Deputy Head of BKPM, Todotua Pasaribu last weekend.

Worldvuer iByond Limited is known as the developer of the Vovea iByond Operating System, a revolutionary system that integrates quantum computing, artificial intelligence and big data analytics.

This combination of technologies is claimed to be able to produce processing speeds and capacities that far exceed conventional data centers. Indonesia was chosen as the first base for this technology in Asia, having previously been developed in Silicon Valley and the Middle East.

Great opportunities

According to Ari Sutedja, Chairman of the Indonesia Cyber Security Forum (ICSF), Indonesia has a great opportunity to become a regional data center but there are major obstacles in its development, especially in terms of infrastructure and investment commitment.

The business potential beyond quantum AI data centers from the development of next-generation technologies is abundant and limitless. However, he emphasized that the success of its development is highly dependent on infrastructure readiness. Ari Sutedja questioned whether the sophistication being talked about was just a term or whether it was indeed supported by adequate infrastructure and technology.

One of the main obstacles is the inadequate infrastructure to support high-level computing, especially for artificial intelligence (AI). Ari Sutedja explained that there are no data centers in Indonesia that are fully capable of performing AI processes due to the large investment required and the difficulty of acquiring AI devices, especially with restrictions from technology powerhouses such as the United States. "The investment is really big, when it comes to AI," he said.

In addition, the unstructured state of data in Indonesia is a serious obstacle. AI data centers require "very large data lakes," and Indonesia currently does not have this capability.

Responding to information from BKPM regarding the investment plan for a computing center in Batam, Ari Sutedja hopes that the data center will not stand alone and can utilize local ecosystems and industries, including domestic entrepreneurs and industries. This will help increase the Domestic Component Level (TKDN). He also emphasized the importance of investors' commitment and responsibility to the nation and state, not just the company's big name.
