Agreed Gas Price of USD 7 per MMBTU, Industry Ready to Improve Competitiveness

  • Industry players in Indonesia are asking for a more equitable and affordable pricing of certain natural gas (HGBT) at the level of USD 7 per MMBTU, in order to increase the competitiveness of the national industry. The government previously set the HGBT at USD 6 per MMBTU since 2016 as an incentive for seven strategic industrial sectors, later rising to USD 7 per MMBTU. The government considers cheap gas prices at the level of US$ 7 per MMBTU to be ideal. If there is still a price increase, then the tolerable increase is at US$ 10 per MMBTU.
  • The Ministry of Industry stated that the gas price policy for raw materials has a significant impact on national industrial growth with an added value of up to Rp 496.5 trillion. The details are an increase in exports of Rp 191.84 trillion, an increase in tax revenue of Rp 31.27 trillion, additional investment of up to Rp 272.4 trillion, and a decrease in fertilizer subsidies of Rp 950 billion.

ASEAN Digital Economy Agreement Finalized Soon, Projected Market Value of USD 2 Trillion in 2030

  • The Indonesian government and ASEAN countries are finalizing the ASEAN Digital Economic Framework Agreement (ASEAN-DEFA). This is expected to be an important milestone for the development of Indonesia's digital economy. Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said that Indonesia is ready to lead the ASEAN digital market, which by 2024 will reach a market value of USD 263 billion with a population of 680 million. Of this amount, Indonesia contributes with a market value of USD 90 billion, and is targeted to reach USD 360 billion by 2030.

Prof. Takeshi Yuzawa will present on the evolution, challenges, and implications of Japan-ASEAN security cooperation on Indo-Pacific regional order amid geopolitical uncertainties. The event as a whole also provides the public with a comprehensive perspective on Japan's policies, politics, economics and conditions in Southeast Asia.
